Awards, Prizes and Competitions
The RE Ross Trust Playwrights' Script Development Awards
The RE Ross Trust Playwrights' Script Development Awards foster Victoria's theatre industry by helping Victorian writers develop their scripts. These annual awards are an initiative of the RE Ross Trust and are administered by the State Library of Victoria.
Applications for the 2010 Awards close on Friday 26 March, and winners will be notified by mail by 30 June 2010.
Public readings of excerpts from some winning entries will be presented in the 2011 Flashpoint program of performances at the State Library of Victoria. One winning entry may be invited to PlayWriting Australia’s National Play Festival 2011 or National Script Workshop 2011.
The Awards provide total annual prize money of $30,000. Applicants are eligible to apply for a minimum of $3000 per annum up to $10,000, although support in excess of $10,000 may be awarded in special circumstances. In any given year, the judges may decide not to allocate the full prize money.
Workshops and Seminars
Creative Development Studios
a 2-3 day supported creative research workshop
Creative
Development Studio sessions provide playwrights with resources to help
solve the problems that are preventing theatre companies from producing
otherwise performance-ready plays.
Creative Development Studios
provide the opportunity to undertake a two- or three-day period of
intensive work on a script in its final draft stage. It is expected
that scripts will have already been submitted to theatre companies for
production consideration, or will have been shortlisted for awards or
prizes. Responses from theatre companies or prize panels should inform
the proposed development to be undertaken.
This is an initiative
to provide established playwrights with resources (including time,
space, actors, directors or dramaturgs), over a period of up to three
days, to address specific issues in a new script. It is intended that
the Studio will enable the writer to address those concerns that have
specifically been raised by theatre companies and thereby assist the
project towards potential production. The development is writer-led,
putting the playwright and their needs at the heart of the process.
Venue and casting support are provided by PlayWriting Australia as
required.
Proposals are invited from playwrights or creative
teams with a minimum of two professionally produced works. Proposals
are assessed twice during the year for Studio dates within the
following session.
