Christine Evans

In Australia, Christine Evans’ plays have been produced by the Adelaide International Festival of Arts, Belvoir St Theatre, Vitalstatistix, Deckchair Theatre, Spare Parts Theatre, Monash University and ABC Radio. Her play 'My Vicious Angel' was nominated for five national literary awards and the Summer Locke Elliot Exchange Award with New Dramatists, NY.

Since moving to the US where she completed an MFA (Playwriting) and PhD (Theatre and Performance Studies) at Brown University, Christine’s plays have been developed and produced in Providence, New York, Washington DC, Seattle, Texas, Santa Rosa and San Francisco, where 'Slow Falling Bird' was showcased at the 2003 Bay Area Playwrights' Festival and premiered with Crowded Fire http://www.crowdedfire.org/sfb.html.

Christine is a Resident Artist at Perishable Theatre (Providence, RI) where three of her plays have received world premiere productions. Her plays 'All Souls' Day' and 'Mothergun', which respectively won Perishable Theatre’s 10th and 9th Annual International Women’s Playwriting Competitions (WPF), have had several subsequent productions and publications. 'All Souls' Day' was nominated for the Actors’ Theatre of Louisville Heideken Award.

Honours include the 2007 Jane Chambers Playwriting Award (US); a Fulbright Award in Visual and Performing Arts; a MacDowell Artists' Colony Fellowship; a Playworks Writers' Fellowship; a Brown University Fellowship; the Weston Prize in Dramatic Writing; a Varuna Writers’ Centre Fellowship; the Rella Lossy Playwriting Award (San Francisco) and the Monash Student Association Prize for Playwriting (Melbourne). In 2007, Christine took up the Briggs-Copeland Lectureship in Playwriting at Harvard University.
