Chris Dickins
Chris Dickins is a playwright, theatre director and teacher who has been working in the performing arts since 1973. He is probably Australia’s most prolific playwright having written over 90 plays - many of which have been specially commissioned for small community companies. These works include Sunrise, Sunset; 'peter panman’; The Men; Absent Without Leave and Foreigners From Home.
Chris has been the artistic director of Bow-Tie, Artisan, Barnstorm Theatre, Spirit Theatre Co, Polyglot Puppet Theatre, Theatre Susso and Alchemy Community Theatre.
Chris’ plays have been produced across Australia and
Internationally; been studied for VCE Drama courses; used as teaching resources at universities and at NIDA and been nominated for the Green Room awards and several have been published.
In 1993 Chris represented Australia at the Five Writers From Five Nations ASSITEJ International Congress (the children’s theatre branch of UNESCO) in
Frankfurt Germany where his theories on theatre were adopted into ASSITEJ archives.
Chris has also been a commissioned playwright for several universities and art centres and regularly conducts writing workshops across the country.
Chris is also an established theatre director having directed many works at the Victorian Arts Centre, St. Martin’s Youth Arts Centre; the Athenaeum; the Adelaide Festival Centre and the Famous Speigeltent.
Chris is currently Head of Drama at Ballarat Clarendon College as well as Alchemy Community Theatre, which is based in Ballarat and has produced nine original productions since its inception in 2006.
