THE ALIENS

Liz, Julie and Deidre were best friends in a small country town, their childhood lives bounded by the river where they swam and played. But when Liz returns after 12 years in the city, everything is tragically different. Julie has recently died; Deidre, childlike and damaged, believes her friend has been taken away by aliens; Deidre's mother, Iris, is openly hostile towards Liz. Soon, the events of the past begin to unravel, revealing the terrible secret that has irrevocably changed the lives of all involved.

"...an impressively polished and constructed play that makes good use of Australian cultural themes and vernacular speech ... a genuine talent and fresh voice in Australian drama." Helen Thomson, The Saturday Age, June 1, 2002.

"The play's strengths are in the carefully drawn characters and the convincing rhythms of the kitchen table language..." Martin Ball, The Australian, May 31, 2002.
