THE KURSK published Playlab

On August 12, 2000, a Russian Nuclear Submarine the 'Kursk' suddenly sank in the Barents Sea. All 118 men on board were lost. 'The Kursk' is a play that relives the last moments of the crew, the desperate rescue attempt, and the surrounding emotional trauma. Playwright Sasha Janowicz's extensive personal research draws on material sourced from Russian documents, archives and transcripts, together with technical advice from professionals of both the Russian and Australian Navy, and provides the authentic basis for this original dramatisation.

Winner of the Bell Award for best independent production of 2007.
Winner of three Matilda Awards (2008) for the best director, the best new Australian work and the best independent production.

'One of the best pieces of independent theatre I have had the pleasure of seeing in some time... the type of drama that will have you thinking long after you have left the theatre.
Nigel Munro-Wallis, 612 ABC Brisbane online, Aug 10 2007
