Information for playwrights

The Australian Script Centre supplies unpublished plays to a wide variety of markets in Australia and overseas. We are constantly looking for new, high quality scripts for professional and amateur companies, independent directors, tertiary drama courses and schools. To find out how to submit a play, see submission guidelines.

We can help you generate income through royalties earned from script sales and photocopy licences. The royalties earned are generally not huge, but they can make a difference.

Australian plays are rarely published commercially, so distributing your play through the Australian Script Centre is a practical way to market your unpublished work.

When added to the script catalogue your play will:

  • have the opportunity to be highlighted in regular script updates sent to possible producers in Australia and overseas
  • be easily accessible to anyone anywhere via our online catalogue
  • be included on the New Scripts list for the first six months of registration

Your script will also be:

  • Read by our National Reading Group and considered for inclusion in the Collection anthology.
  • Read by our experienced staff for possible featuring as a Play of the Month for tertiary, school or amateur performers

If a copy of your script is sold, we will:

  • Provide you or your agent with contact details for the buyer
  • Give the buyer your contact details and inform them of production, copying and royalty protocols
  • Send you an annual payment for any royalties earned from photocopy licence and script sales.
